Dr. Kritine Galek

Dr. Galek received her bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas. She earned her master's degree from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and her doctoral degree from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. Dr. Galek is a consultant for an international research and development team for biomedical devices used for swallowing (dysphagia) assessment and intervention for both pediatric and adult populations. She teaches ASHA approved continuing education courses and she is an active researcher in a state of the art research lab with interests in swallowing disorders, voice disorders, craniofacial disorders (resonance), and speech science. 

 

Her current research projects include studies of normative swallow amplitudes in different conditions using adjunctive surface electromyography (sEMG), sEMG electrode reliability, comparative studies on normal effortful swallow, typical swallow, and swallow maneuvers using adjunctive sEMG, training effects and the use visual biofeedback on learning novel motor patterns, dysphagia treatment outcomes in patients with head/neck cancer patients, exercise-based therapy, skill-based therapy, and adjunctive modalities as they relate to various dysphagia treatments.
